Motivation for your miles.


Random Running Thoughts….

-In the beginning I was embarrassed to run in public.

-3 years, many 5k’s/10k’s, a half and a full marathon later….I still have a hard time running the first 2 miles(not because of other people…just physically).  After the first 2 miles are out of the way it gets easier for me…kind of.

-I have to make myself run every time.  Knowing what a difference it makes in every area of my life, it really seems that lacing up my shoes & getting out the door would be a “non-decision.”

-I think it’s unfair that I’ve been running for 3 years & my husband has been running for only 1 year….yet he is much faster and can run farther than me.  He literally “runs circles” around me.  He will run ahead of me & then circle back to me many times during our weekly long run.  (I’m actually very proud of him.)

-quote from my daughter….”When most parents say they are going to run to the store…that means they are going to get in the car and go buy something at the store.  When MY parents say they are going to run to the store, it might mean that they are LITERALLY going to physically RUN to the store!”  🙂

-Support from friends, family & even strangers makes a huge difference.  I’m not sure that I would still be running without them.   I’ll blog about that one day.

-I have received COMMENTS on my last few blog entries!!!…and that makes me very happy!

Some people can’t dance…so we run instead…

Some might disagree with me.  “You should dance anyway!”…they say.

That’s only because they’ve never seen me dance before!

Actually, I DO dance for my family from time to time…only if they want a good laugh 🙂

My husband shared this little guy with me the other day.  I think I might watch him every day!

He just makes me want to go for a run! 

“You got air comin through your nose! You got a heart beat! That means it’s time to do something!”

“You were made to be awesome!”       

                                                   “I want to be on the path that leads to awesome!”

“Get a better dream and keep going and going and going….”

                                                                                       “Give the World a reason to dance run”

“Create something that will make the world awesome”

         “We’ve got work to do!  We can cry about it…or we can dance run about it.”

         “It’s everybody’s duty to give the world a reason to dance run…so get to it!”

I’m not really a dead armadillo…I just look like one…

I wrote CAN on my hand to look at as inspiration during the marathon. Upon completion, it was a good feeling to mark that out and write “did.”


On Saturday’s (beautiful & PERFECT) spring run, 7.5 miles, I found myself thinking…”Yay!  I don’t have to run 20 miles today!”

This winter during marathon training, when the schedule called for a 17+ mile run…I always wished I had a sign hovering over my head.  It would read something like this…”She really can run faster than this!  She’s already ran 17 miles this morning!”  My daughters would come home from school the following week and say, “My friends said they saw you running Saturday…they said you looked like you were in a lot of pain!”  It was slightly embarrassing…but in reality…nobody. really. cared. 🙂

I also remember when I actually ran 20 miles.  The longest distance that our training plan called for!

That # really played with my mind!

20 miles! What an accomplishment!

TWENTY MILES?!?  On race day, I will still have 6.2 MORE miles to run?  Is that even possible!?!  I barely even made it home without falling on the ground like a dead armadillo on the side of the road! (I was going to insert a picture right here…but they were all too morbid…you can just google them if you’d like 🙂 )

I’m here to say…YES!  It IS POSSIBLE!

“Your legs are not giving out.  Your head is giving up.  Keep going.” 

I just love that quote!

In the Beginning….my journey from Couch to 10k

In the beginning…

I didn’t even WANT to run a marathon.  I just wanted to run a 10k…finish what I started…DO what I said I was going to do.

Running has changed my life…I like to call it “free therapy” 🙂

I shared my “journey” from couch to 10k with my Facebook friends & I wanted to share it with you too!  They have been with me from the first grumpy step, all the way to the marathon finish line.

Completing a marathon takes away a whole host of excuses.

For example:  “I’m too tired.  That seems impossible.  I don’t know how to.  That’s too hard.  etc. etc. etc….”

Those excuses just don’t work anymore.
