41 Rotations around the Sun…”Birthday Run”

!!!HAPPY 41st BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!
(Or as my dad might say…41 rotations around the sun.)
I was greeted with smiles and cupcakes for a 5:15am run with my “Chilton Runners” friends.
(…and yes, I did count them…each delicious mini-cupcake contains 100 calories, which takes 1 mile or in my case 9:46 minutes to burn off…)

In keeping with our “Chilton Runners” tradition, I found a parking lot and created a big “41” with my GPS.

I kept a great pace(for me), and made sure to stop my GPS at 4.1 miles!

o top it off, my music for this run happened to disperse random cuts off of the “ROCKY” album…

“Rocky” music just makes me feel like a winner…how about you?

Chilton Runners: “running with friends”

My husband surprised me with a visit to tour my “dream home” the other day.  It was everything on my “list”, it even had a spectacular view AND was only 5 minutes from shopping.

(He’d always said I couldn’t have both a pretty view and live close to town too.)

I LOVED IT!

…but…

Where would I run?…and what about our running group?

We were just dream building anyway, but I told him that I couldn’t move there…I couldn’t leave my running friends. 🙂

In this town of beauty pageants, politics, baseball, hunting, sweet tea and AU/AL football(none of which mean a thing to me), I never felt like I really belonged here until I started running.

I often wonder if every running group is as great as mine…I can’t imagine so…
What a great group of people!

Take LOTS of pictures of me please!

TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES OF ME PLEASE!

Tomorrow will be a history making day in the Davis household!

For the first time EVER we are having “REAL” family photos taken by my friend, and fellow runner,

Julia Cantley, of  Julia Cantley Photography!

Besides the fact that I could fill a suitcase with “awkward” pictures taken of myself during the last 40 years….I’ve also been “losing 20 lbs” for the last 10 years or so, thinking that THEN we could have a picture made.  This year I changed my mind.  We’re having a photo session despite my own self criticisms.  I know that as my children get older & move away it will be more difficult to arrange this & I didn’t want to miss out.

This year, the value of a photo was made ever so clear to me with the passing of my sweet Mother-in-law, Mary, from this earth into Heaven.

I had the pleasure of making a movie of pictures that we all had collected of her through the years.  I’m happy to say that we had MANY.  Each one suddenly became a treasure.  Scanning through each picture was very therapeutic for me.  My favorites were the ones that showed the REAL Mary.  They were very  likely the pictures that she didn’t even like of herself.  There was the one while she was sleeping that showed her crooked toes & calloused feet, another of the sweet curve of her shoulders and even the perfect space between her front teeth that she disliked with a passion.  There were others of her at all stages of life.  With each picture, I only saw the essence of Mary:  loving & selfless, proud mother to Matt, sweet Gran to my children.  The weight, wrinkles, & as the song says “perfect imperfections” were the things that I cherished the most.

Now that she’s not here with us on this earth, there still aren’t enough pictures, or videos of her.  Those along with any handwritten notes or cards are our most sought after possessions.  When anyone shares another, it’s as if they are sharing another piece of her with us.  Priceless.

So, TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES OF ME PLEASE!

Sleeping, chewing, talking, laughing, 20 lbs overweight, bad hair, good hair…whatever….just snap away!

It’s a gift!  With love from me to you.

…and if you’re reading this, be sure to do the same.

It’s not about you,

but it IS very much about special moments with those who love you.

It’s an honor to know you sir…

I have a friend that is running The Boston Marathon tomorrow.

Many see him living his dream, but have no idea the road he has traveled to get there.

If you know a Boston Marathoner, you should consider it an honor to have met them.

Running friends are the best kind of friends….

This blog post is for my friend & fellow runner, Julia Cantley of Julia Cantley Photography.

“She keeps me going. We all need friends like that.” ❤

I just returned from a much needed run with her at her gym.
I almost didn’t go, because I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO!  Then I thought, “If I don’t have 20-30 minutes to take time for myself then I’m just TOO BUSY!”

At the end of our run, she mentioned that I really needed to make a new blog entry.  I’m always surprised when she says that, but its nice that she notices.  🙂
Again, I said….“I have just been too busy.”

So, for Julia, I will share my thoughts from yesterday.  I typed it, but I just didn’t feel like sharing….I get that way sometimes.

Thursday/4.17.14

“I LOVE the people that I get to run with, they’re right up there with my church family. I just really enjoy being in their presence.

Would I LOVE them as much if we spent more than an hour or two at a time together? I have no idea!

I’m guessing…probably not.

So, for now, I’ll just enjoy the moment(s). Spending time with self motivated, supportive, happy, inspirational people is truly a blessing.

I’m very thankful!”

I am reminded of a post that I wrote last year.

When I run, I get to live for a moment in my dream world.  It’s one of my favorite places to be.

You can read about it here:  https://the23rdmile.wordpress.com/2013/04/05/race-day-living-the-dream/

Happy Running Everyone!

Sometimes in life we need to have a reason to celebrate.
Go create your own finish lines.

There are some moments in life that you’ll have to create your own reason to celebrate.
Go make a new finish line.

Sometimes in life, you’ll just have to create your own finish line.
Go find a reason to celebrate.

Go find a reason to celebrate, even if you have to create the finish line yourself.

Running gives you a reason to celebrate, even if you create the finish line in your own imagination.

Running gives you reasons to celebrate, even when setting the finish line yourself.

Running gives you reasons to celebrate, even if you’re the one who set the finish line.

Give yourself a reason to celebrate.    GO FOR A RUN!

GO FOR A RUN!

Because sometimes you have to create your own reasons worth celebrating.

Why I run… Sachea C. “I run for my Lexi Faye & Layla Mae.”

z186

Sachea C.

As I was catching up with an old friend this morning, she asked me, “Why exactly do you run? You actually LIKE torturing yourself and losing toe nails, lol?”

It occurred to me that I hadn’t examined myself enough to know my own reasoning… But as I tried to explain the happiness that it brings me, I also discovered my reasons… I run for selfish reasons and some, not so selfish. I run for my sanity. Running makes me a better person, but most important to me, it makes me a better mom. I run for my health. I run so I can hopefully be around long enough to watch my babies and their babies grow up. But on mornings like these, when it’s bitter cold, or those mornings when I’m just plain exhausted or simply don’t feel like it, those reasons aren’t enough to still make me lace up my sneakers and go “torture myself”. That’s when the REAL reasons as to why I run become apparent. I run for my girls. I run to show them discipline, and what it means to be devoted to and dedicated to something. I run to show them that they can achieve absolutely anything that they put their minds to, no matter how crazy that people think they may be for chasing big dreams. I run to show them that no matter what is going on in their lives, that they can have total control over themselves and their personal happiness. I run to show them that when love is involved anything is possible. I run for them.

I run for my Lexi Faye & Layla Mae.

That is why I run.

Last long run…finished.

Last short run….finished.

New songs loaded on my ipod….check!

Laying out clothes for Sunday’s marathon & packing bag for after the race…in progress.

I just had to stop and take a minute to say Thanks.

Thank you to the Lord…the giver of Life.  The one who fills us with His power and strength.  It is only because of Him that we live, move and have our being.

Thank you to my friends and family.  Who show interest and listen to all my running jibber jabber…just because they love me.  They are such an encouragement.

Thank you to my fellow runners.  Our running group, Chilton Runners, has been such a big help.  They “like” my statuses.  They post their latest runs, which inspires me to get back out there.  They expect me to be meet them for our cold, dark, 5:15am runs…so I do.  We spend hours together chit chatting during our Saturday long runs, which has made this year’s training much easier!  Sometimes they run slower to be by my side, or maybe just run circles around me….it’s a No runner left behind! kind of thing.  🙂  They share their tips, gu-gel, stories, and even left me a nice prize one day!  Some of them have become dear friends.

z132

This prize was waiting on my car one day after a long run. I think of it often.

Thank you to you, my blog readers.  My outlet.  I’ve learned so much from my fellow bloggers as well!

…and last but NOT LEAST!  Thank you to my girls!  They have made sacrifices that haven’t gone unnoticed…and I appreciate them very much.  They’ve changed their plans so they could babysit for me during my long run.  They’ve waited to take showers, so I could have hot water after a freezing run.  Their support is not required, but is freely given…and that means so much to this momma.

So now…I will get back to work & preparing for Sunday.

I already feel like a winner…and it’s not even race day yet.  ❤

Thanks again!

~Julia
